Comparing the attribution of societal impact and artistic qualities in the Western reception of art activists from democratic and authoritarian regimes. This project examines the reception of artivists within artistic fields, in which gatekeepers such as art critics and curators are said to evaluate art on the basis of aesthetic qualities, and within mainstream society, in which media outlets and audiences are said to evaluate the activism, attributing societal impact. Read more  nwo-logo

How Dutch and American Designers Navigate Multiple Fields. Design has evolved from perfunctory importance in post-war business activities to an essential competitive advantage in today’s markets. This research project seeks to understand how design educators and professionals make sense of and navigate the increasingly fluid boundaries between overlapping fields and what consequences this fluidity has for design identities and careers.
